An interesting project has been posted to codeplex. It is basically a reporting solution for policy based management that reports across the enterprise. It was designed by Tom Davison of DMVStats and the SQL Server script repository fame and Lara Rubbelke.
Get it here.
Here is some nice eye candy.
Microsoft licensed the Dundas guage control for SQL Server 2008. I believe they did the same the chart control. I have been playing around with the gauge control for a new project I am working on tonight and I thought I would show few pics because they are pretty cool.
Here is it displaying real time perfmon data:
Here are several more but not all of the other other gauge types. Click to expand.
How cool is that? Ok, ok, it is a JeeYouEye but your boss will think you have been taking king fu lessons.
Just a quick reminder that the SSWUG virtual conference starts tomorrow. I hope you can attend. They have given me a discount code to distribute: VIPJM2008DIS I do not get any extra cha-ching from you using it. I just state that so this post doesn't sound spammy.
Actually hearing my recorded voice makes me cringe so this will definitely be interesting for me. :)

Here are the sessions I am doing:

I just got a discount code for the SSWUG conference. The code is: VIPJM2008DIS . It is good for 10% off. I am not a sales person so watch the commercial. Hope to "see" you there.
I am going to give a talk on the data collector in SQL Server 2008 at this month's meeting.
Topic:Data Collections in SQL Server 2008
Date:Thursday, June 19th, 2008
Overview:
Data collections are a new feature in SQL Server 2008. They allow you to collect perfmon, trace or query data to a central database. We will start off by setting up and configuring Data Collections. We will look at the default collections and historic reports in Management Studio. We will cover setting custom collections and providing a UI with SSRS.
Directions etc can be found here.
Get it here. Once I get back home on FIOS, I will upload the whole virtual hard drive used in the presentation.
There are some new SQL Server 2008 virtual labs.
Choose a title below to begin your evaluation process.
Also just by evaluating, you are entered to win an HP home server box.
I am speaking SQL Connections in Orlando this April. The session is entitled "Augmenting the DBA toolbox with SSRS" It will be similar to my pass session except it is all about Reporting Services and it will be 100% SQL 2008. However, most reports will be 2005 compatible with minor changes. It will totally be about working smarter not harder. I will have a ton of tools that you can integrate into your environment and I will show you how to put your existing tools to work.
I am really excited about this. I missed this year but I went in 2006 and 2005. For more infomation, check out http://sqlconnections.com You can also read the co-chair blogs here and here.
Here is a report that I used in one of my demo's in my PASS presentation. It is very useful to me and I use it in production. You will have to modify the report parameters to include your machine names. It also requires powershell to be installed.
